"Mercedes Streeter" (smart)

With the fixed-ish front forks the GS takes on an even sharper lean when parked. Uh, I really really don’t like that. While I’m figuring out what stand I need to get I’m rigging up a temporary solution.
That little silver block down there is a “herb grinder”. My bestie gave it (and a bunch of other related stuff) to me about four years ago to hold onto in case she is ever in a position to need to grind “herb” again. Last time she used it was five years ago. Well, she didn’t tell me she left a giant nug in the thing! That giant five year old nug basically disintegrated and since the grinder was also hidden in a bucket of Folgers, well this grinder is ruined.
I threaded some zip ties through it then set the bike down. It passed the test! Now all I have to do is take the brackets I have laying around at home and bolt it on.

On my 85 xl600 I had to heat up the bracket and bend it to the proper angle. It’s a beast to kick over and hold up at the same time. Kicking it over on the stand for years slowly bent the bracket. I had a block of wood in its usual parking place in the barn.
That’s a nice GS. Glad it is getting used.

I think you discussed this before but I forgot what you concluded. That sidestand looks bent. At several points. It looks bent outward near it’s mount which is why the bike leans so much.
Someone tried to fix that by bending it inwards at mid-point.
It don’t look OEM. I bet a new one will fix your issues.

I think this is the correct view. Motorcycle manufacturers don’t sell bikes with inadequate sidestands. Maybe you get the odd one here or there but not something like a GS or a CB.
Look at some pictures of other stands - I don’t think they have the same ben ds yours does. COuld just be the picture though but this is also the easiest + simplest + most straightforward solution. Someone almost tipped the bike over with the side stand out, bent it, and tried to bend it back, so now you get to spend 15$ on ebay.

Conclusion is to get a new one! Yeah, this bugger is bent to hell. But I want to make sure I both get one that’s strong enough and long enough. Maybe I’ll see if I can get one off another GS.
